Yogi Bear voiceover actress Julie Bennett has died, aged 88, from coronavirus

Yogi Bear star Julie Bennett has died, aged 88, from coronavirus.

The US actress, best known for her voiceovers, passed away on Tuesday from Covid-19, her agent and longtime friend Mark Scroggs has confirmed.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Mark praised the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles for looking after Julie while she was in hospital.

He said in a statement: ‘They have been amazing during all of this.’

‘[Julie] was definitely a personality and a throwback to Hollywood glamour. Divorced, she leaves behind her mutually adopted family.’

Julie’s agent and longterm friend confirmed her passing in a statement

Julie got her big break in the entertainment industry in the 1950s, where she appeared in theatre, radio soaps and TV dramas.

She had roles in Superman, Gunsmoke, Leave it to Beaver and Dragnet, but was best known for her voiceover acting.

The star brought to life the character of Cindy Bear in 1961 classic The Yogi Bear Show and starred in its spinoff, that was released three years later, Hey There, It’s Yogi Bear and The New Yogi Bear Show in 1988.

Julie also provided voiceovers in The Real Ghostbusters, Spider-Man: The Animated Series as Aunt May Parker, The Bugs Bunny and Tweety Show, The Huckleberry Hound Show and Mister Magoo.

News of her death comes after it was confirmed Fountains of Wayne singer Adam Schlesinger passed away due to coronavirus, aged 52.

A lawyer for Adam explained his condition had been critical and he was unable to recover from the virus.

There are currently over 200,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus across the US, while the number of deaths has reached 5,140.

President Donald Trump recently announced that he is extending lockdown measures across America until the 31 April.

Just like the UK, the US currently has lockdown restrictions in place to try and control the spread of Covid-19, by urging everyone to stay indoors and to practice social distancing.
