Xbox Series X parodies have begun as Internet reacts to next gen Xbox

Now that we know the true name and form of Project Scarlett, fans on Twitter have already started to poke fun at it.

The last thing anyone expected at The Game Awards 2019 was a full reveal of the next gen Xbox, but Microsoft were there to show off the new console and to reveal its real name (Project Scarlett was just a codename).

Neither were what anyone expected and while the response to the design has been more positive than the name it’s the look of the new console that’s the easiest to joke about, with comparisons to everything from SpongeBob SquarePants to a Nintendo GameCube.

It’s hard to gauge exactly what people think of it all, but the overall response seems to be positive. With the negative reaction to the name tempered by the fact that Microsoft has always been terrible at naming its consoles, so this isn’t really much of a surprise.

It’s unclear when Microsoft will say any more about the new console, but it’s really the games that need to be showcased now – with only Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 getting a quick tease.

Microsoft mentioned E3 in June being an important next date for them, but there’s also a good chance they’ll put on their own mini-event before that.

Xbox Series X is due to be released next Christmas, but no pricing information has been released yet.
