Xbox Scarlett has perfect release date partner to take on new PS5 console

The Xbox Scarlett has the perfect partner in Project xCloud when it comes to taking on Sony’s new PS5 console.

The new streaming service is still in beta and currently isn’t available to everyone in the United States and the UK.

But come release date for the Xbox Scarlett, we should have a service much closer to its end product.

And that should provide Microsoft with a great edge over some of its biggest rivals in the gaming market.

Having used Project xCloud over November, it’s become clear the potential such a service could have in the future.

But what makes it even more impressive is that it will be part of the existing Xbox ecosystem.

I don’t like the chances of Cloud Gaming competing with the likes of the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett in 2020 by itself.

Services are still unsteady and can’t currently reach large groups of players throughout the United States, a key market.

But having something like Project xCloud in your back pocket can only make the Xbox Scarlett console stronger.

For now, xCloud remains a work in progress and there are things that will need to be tweaked. Long term, xCloud could have the biggest impact on mobile devices, making it possible to play your games on the go.

Mobile services probably aren’t equipped for a large scale cloud gaming model yet, but with the launch of 5G, this will all change.

Reliable 5G should change a lot for gamers but this isn’t expected to be completed for years. That’s why having Project xCloud as a growing concern makes a lot of sense for now.

Microsoft will need to work out ways to enlarge text when playing on smaller devices, as this remains a problem for those who use subtitles.

Find a way to compress data usage will also be a need in the future, especially when you consider that it can use up to 2.5GB an hour right now.

But when everything is working, Project xCloud could make for a tempting secondary option for gamers looking to choose between Scarlett and PS5.

2020 will be a big year for Microsoft, with Project xCloud set to build and provide more services and features.

A message from the tech giant explains: “Enabling people to play games on the device of their choice goes beyond a phone or tablet, it extends into how you control the game.

“In addition to using an Xbox One wireless controller, we’ll expand support to more Bluetooth controllers beginning next year, including the DualShock 4 wireless controller and game pads from Razer.

“We will also bring Project xCloud Preview to more markets beginning in 2020, such as Canada, India, Japan, and Western Europe. Expanding to additional markets over time is an important step in our journey to delight the 2 billion gamers in the world. We’ll have more details to share soon on when and how to register.

“We believe in the freedom to play and the freedom to choose. In 2020 we will enable gamers to stream from the cloud Xbox games that they already own or will purchase.

“We will also add game streaming from the cloud to Xbox Game Pass. Gamers will be free to discover, choose, and play their favourite games anywhere and everywhere.”

Game Pass and being able to stream your own games using xCloud will transform the service into something very useful, perhaps before Xbox Scarlett gets off the ground.
