Xbox joins Animal Crossing: New Horizons hype train, creates own custom clothing

The whole world seems to be addicted to Animal Crossing and that includes Microsoft, who have posted some exclusive T-shirt designs.

Microsoft and Sony have never got on that well, and although it’s been a while since they’ve been involved in any kind of direct argument things like Sony releasing their DualSense PlayStation 5 info at the exact same moment Microsoft had an Inside Xbox livestream seems unsportsmanlike at best.

But Microsoft and Nintendo are a different story. There’s never been any animosity between the two companies and recently they’ve been collaborating particularly closely, with Banjo and Kazooie appearing in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and previously Xbox exclusive titles Cuphead and Ori And The Blind Forest coming to Switch.

Even so, you still wouldn’t expect to see the official Xbox Twitter account sharing downloadable Animal Crossing: New Horizons designs… but that’s exactly what’s been happening.

The Xbox branded T-shirt and hoodie can be downloaded by anyone via the Customs Designs Portal at the Able Sisters tailor shop.

It requires a Nintendo Switch Online account to use (equivalent to Xbox Live Gold) and if you click the Search by Design ID option and use the codes in the tweet above you can download and wear the clothes yourself.

Custom designs can be used for not just clothing but pictures, flags, and other decorations. The feature has become one of the main appeals of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, with many fans organising themselves into communities that share designs with each other and the wider world.

But that hasn’t gone down well with everyone, as the game has caught a de facto ban in China, thought to be because some players are using it to stage virtual pro-democracy protests.
