X Factor could be 'killed off' as ITV takes on new talent show The Masked Singer

X-Factor could come to an end due to ITV’s latest signing, The Masked Singer according to insiders.

The talent show which features performers concealing their identities in costumes is due to be aired for eight consecutive nights in the spring, after it proved to be a huge success in the US, Australia and 11 other countries.

Current judges across the globe consist of Dannii Minogue, Lindsay Lohan and Pussycat Doll, Nicole Scherzinger.

Speaking to the Mirror Online, a source said: “The Masked Singer is a bit different to all the other talent shows.

“You don’t know who is under the costumes so it’s a lot of fun and there are plenty of laughs along the way as everyone tries to guess who’s who.

“It could easily become the natural replacement for The X Factor.” This comes as Simon Cowell is allegedly battling to save the show as viewing figures plummet to the ground.

The 2010 X Factor final, which saw Matt Cardle crowned the winner saw around 19.4 million viewers, whereas X-Factor Celebrity only managed to rake in 3.1 million on Saturday.

This is one million less than EastEnders star, Danny Dyer’s new BBC One quiz show, The Wall which competed against The X Factor on Saturday night.

It’s believed that BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing peaked with more than 10 million viewers over the weekend.

Singers perform in costume to conceal their identity

Judges on The Masked Singer speculate about who is singing but their identities are not revealed until they are either voted off or win the talent show.

Daily Star Online revealed in September that bosses had confirmed their star-studded lineup.

Pop sensation and former X Factor judge Rita Ora will join Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Ken Jeong on the judging panel. While I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star and comedian, Joel Dommett will present the show.

Rita said: “I’m a huge fan of The Masked Singer, it’s such a fresh and original show.

“I can’t wait for it to come to the UK and to get started – it’s going to be so much fun.”

It’s believed that Simon is currently negating his deal with ITV execs who want to cut down on the price for X Factor 2020.
