Simon Cowell gave the Love Island group No Love Lost his safe seat during Saturday night’s live show.

The music mogul, 60, was determined to give his group their time to shine next week, as he admitted he ‘admired how serious they’ve taken it.’

Judging their performance of Would I Lie To You by Charles & Eddie, he gushed: ‘We had to make a lot of changes on the track… what I admire about you is how serious you’re taking it, you’ve all done incredibly well in your careers.

‘I also respect that you’ve taken a chance by doing this show, so there’s something i can do for you tonight.’

Walking up purposefully to the golden buzzer, Simon jubilantly pushed it to give the group his safe seat while his fellow judges watched in dismay.

Nicole Scherzinger was less impressed, as she claimed there are ‘really strong’ groups in this year’s competition, so they ‘all have to put in a little bit of extra work to get to the others.’

Simon claimed Louis Walsh ‘looked so grumpy’, and the Irish judge wasn’t too pleased with the group as he said: ‘They don’t want to be on reality TV, they want to be on the charts. I think you’re better than this song guys, I think you have a chance in the real world.’

Jonny Labey opened the show with a powerful rendition of Are You Gonna Be My Girl by Jet, which Simon claimed was ‘too corny [and] too cabaret for him.

The music mogul wasn’t one to mince his words for the EastEnders star, as he claimed: ‘I think you lost the cool factor today.

‘I can tell our team styled you, big mistake. It wasn’t as good as last week, I thought you are better than that. Too corny, too cabaret for me.’

Nicole didn’t seem to agree with Simon, as she claimed that Jonny was ‘a cool cat’, as she added: ‘You got a great set of legs to dance with.’

His mentor, Louis was full of praise: ‘I mean what a way to start the show, you were my safe seat this week. we have to remember you are an actor you’re not a singer, and you delivered.’
