Wu-Tang Clan turn up in force for premiere of new documentary at Tribeca Film Festival

Nearly 30 years into their career, arguably the greatest rap group of all time are still going strong.

Wu-Tang Clan are as active as ever, with new music, a UK/European tour and a pair of retrospective documentary series all in the pipeline.

Last night (25 April), members of the pioneering group attended the New York City premiere of the new docu-series Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics And Men, which was screened at the Beacon Theatre as part of the annual Tribeca Film Festival.

The four-part series, directed by Sacha Jenkins, looks back over the Wu-Tang’s long and illustrious career, ‘combining intimate and reflective interviews from each of the nine living members with never-before-seen archival footage and performances’.

‘It was music and their shared lyrical genius that allowed them to form the most recognised musical movement in the world, all while walking the tightrope that links business with brotherhood,’ a press release affirms about the series.

The series, which will premiere in the US on Showtime, arrives as the Wu continue to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), which hit the milestone last year.

As well as Of Mics and Men, de factor leader RZA is also working with Hulu on a separate docuseries titled Wu-Tang: An American Saga, which will focus on the group’s rise and influence on music in the 1990s.

A UK premiere date for both series has yet to be confirmed, but we’re sure they’ll be well worth the wait.
