  • Startup Wormhole Labs has raised an $8M USD seed round to further develop and launch its Wormhole social app.
  • The Wormhole platform lets gaming and esports fans connect in social rooms based on real-world events and locations, and quickly “wormhole” to other rooms.
  • West Coast Capital Partners and Byzantine Partners led the round.

California-based startup Wormhole Labs has raised an $8M seed funding round to further develop and release Wormhole, its social platform for videogame and esports fans.

The round was led by West Coast Capital Partners in the United States and Byzantine Partners internationally. Wormhole Labs founder and CEO Curtis Hutten told The Esports Observer that the seed funding will be used to improve technology, implement artificial intelligence features, and launch the app globally while further incorporating partnerships.

Wormhole lets fans connect with each other through augmented reality features. Each user can create an avatar and then interact with other fans in social hubs, with real-world 360-degree backgrounds. Users can then “wormhole” into another user’s room by tapping an icon, which sends them to another social space.

“Wormholing as an experience is an evolution in how users can discover and interact with each other and share and experience media,” said Hutten. “The ability to Wormhole from any location to another in the world is powerful technology. The gaming community is the perfect community to thrive with this platform and connect passionate players and personalities globally in new ways.”

The app will launch on iOS, Android, and PC, and include Twitch Database-Link-e1521645463907 integration that lets players connect with streamers.
