Working in Clark County: Cooper Bates, Abbey Cockreham, co-owners of Double Jump Video Games – The Columbian

They said the decision to open a shop at 700 S.E. Chkalov Drive was a no-brainer. Vancouver is Bates’ hometown, and he has a deep love for the city’s unique culture. Being in close proximity to Portland helps get merchandise on the floor faster, as well as making online sales and trades more convenient.

“We took a leap on Double Jump and it’s been great ever since,” Bates said.

In addition to running the store, Bates and his team also operate a YouTube channel where they post behinds-the-scenes looks at what’s going on in the store, special event giveaways, and other fun features for viewers and customers to enjoy.

As much fun as working in the world of gaming can be, running a business isn’t all fun and games.

“It’s basically 24/7 work for us,” Bates said. “Even at home, we reply to emails, shop for inventory online, edit and upload videos to our social media, moderate our Facebook group, and anything else needed to run the business.”
