It has been confirmed that Wonder Woman 1984 will still be released to cinemas despite the coronavirus pandemic.

Reports emerged that Warner Bros. chairman Toby Emmerich and top studio executives had been in talks about releasing the Wonder Woman sequel to online streaming services instead with cinemas shut down globally due to the Covid-19 virus.

However, IndieWire has since confirmed that Warner have decided to go ahead with the cinema release although a question mark looms over whether they’ll stick to the 5 June schedule.

It’s uncertain how long the coronavirus pandemic will last but officials have stated anywhere from three months to the rest of the year.

Hollywood has been heavily impacted by the virus outbreak, with many films postponing their releases to as far back as a year. These include James Bond movie No Time To Die, Fast & Furious 9, A Quiet Place Part II, Marvel’s Black Widow, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway and The New Mutants.

However, Trolls World Tour was made available online early while the home releases of Birds Of Prey, The Invisible Man, Bloodshot, Frozen II and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, have been brought forward with millions of movie fans fast running out of things to binge-watch on streaming services.

The 1984 trailer sees Wonder Woman reunited with her love interest Steve Trevor (Pine) while facing off two new foes, Max Lord (Pedro Pascal) and Cheetah (Wiig).

The first installment grossed around $820 million (£692 million) at the box office worldwide.
