It is not easy to watch this footage of a woman almost becoming crushed when a faulty lift suddenly begins to move as she prepares to leave it.

The woman narrowly avoided serious injury when the lift shot up with her halfway out of the door.

The shocking moment was captured on a security camera inside the lift at a building in China on 11 August.

In the video, two women are seen standing inside the lift which is stopped on the ground floor.

Both women seem confused as to why it is not moving before one of them, holding a plate of food, decides to step out and check.

But as soon as she heads out of the lift, it jolts upwards with the doors still open.

The second woman remains in the lift and appears to try and stop the first, who makes it out of the door with split-seconds to spare.

A loud crash can be heard as the woman jumps through the shrinking gap, presumably after dropping the plate of food in her hands.

The lift continues to rise, passing other floors with its metal doors wide open.

It is not known if the malfunction is being investigated.
