Woman makes between £5,000 and £7,000 a month 'fixing' people's dating profiles

On the brink of homelessness, a young woman set up her own business in the hopes of earning some extra money and is now bringing in between £5,000 and £7,000 a month.

Chloe Gray runs ‘Advice by Chloe’ full-time and helps edit people’s dating profiles to give them a better shot at finding love.

The 24-year-old from Middletown, New York, who uses a business pseudonym, has so far helped a number of men and claims one of the main issues she encounters in her job is to do with photos.

She recalls helping one 45-year-old who only had a picture on his profile of him wearing a ‘young, dumb and full of c*m’ t-shirt.

“He was like ‘it makes me look young and hip’ and I was like ‘it doesn’t make you look hip; it makes you look creepy’,” she said.

Chloe, making a heart shape with her hands
She was on the brink of homelessness when she had the idea for ‘Advice by Chloe’

She continued: “I had one client who in all of his photos had his hands just hanging loosely at his side staring into the camera with no expression on his face. He literally looked like a serial killer.

“It’s because men aren’t socialised on how to pose or smile for a picture.”

Chloe was left struggling to find a new job and pay her bills back in 2019, after the family, she nannied for decided to leave the country.

“I had literally 33 cents in my bank account. I was selling my clothes for food and had nothing to eat but ramen for weeks.”

But having helped her friends with their dating profiles in the past, she decided to offer her help on Reddit and was instantly flooded with responses.

She added: “I spent 12 hours a day for two weeks working for £3.50 ($5) an hour and then reposted again asking for £7.00 ($10) an hour and I got hundreds more responses.

“Six months in I was like, ‘Woah is this my job now?'”

And sure enough, it was.

She now runs ‘Advice by Chloe’ as a career, offering everything from profile overhauls for $50 (£35) an hour to a ‘Pocket Chloe’ service where she is available via text for a week from 9 am until midnight, for $120 (£85).

While most of her clients are straight men in the U.S. and Canada, Chloe gets a range of genders, orientations and ages globally including Australia, the UK, India, Japan and China.

“I get mostly straight men and after that, it’s gay men, then gay women then straight women,” she explained.

“An average day for me could be having a client who’s 65 and a widower and getting out into the dating world for the first time again and then a 30-year-old who doesn’t understand why he’s not getting matches.

“Then, an 18-year-old who wants me to teach him what the clitoris is and what to do with it and then a 40-year-old divorced dad who doesn’t know how to date with kids.”

She added that she sometimes gets called the female Hitch, from the comedy starring Will Smith as a dating coach.

“I’m not as amazing as Will Smith though,” she says, though so far her services have led to two marriages and an engagement.

Chloe feels it’s important for her to make sure her clients are learning skills to succeed on their own.

“It’s really important to me that ‘Advice by Chloe’ isn’t predatory.

“There are lots of pick-up artists and people who claim to be dating consultants who foster dependence and aren’t teaching actionable skills.

“Everything I do is to teach them the machinery behind the current so they can go and use these skills themselves.”
