Woman branded 'childish' and an 'idiot' by date for liking Love Island

When it comes to getting to know someone, there’s bound to be a number of things about them that will surprise you.

From their favourite food to what size shoe they wear and what kind of music they like, there’s a lot of stuff to go through.

But normally these sort of details aren’t relationship deal breakers.

However, one woman from Kent recently shared her love of a particular television show with a date and she never could have predicted what would happen next.

Charlotte Brown confessed to a man that she couldn’t speak on the phone with him the other night because she didn’t want to miss a moment of Love Island – and to say he was angry would be an understatement.

He branded the show ‘trash’

Charlotte, 27, shared screengrabs of a WhatsApp conversation she had with a 35-year-old known only as Andrew.

After learning of her fondness for the villa, Andrew, who claims to be a therapist, replied patronisingly: “You were doing so well, everything was great and then Love Island! Vile shallow programme, yuck!”

Charlotte attempted to brush his comments aside, but the guy just wouldn’t let the issue go.

He continued to proclaim that the show is “grotesque” and “absolute trash”.

He ended up blocking her on WhatsApp

Charlotte attempted to change the topic several more times, but her words only made him more determined to get his point accross.

Andrew went on to call her “childish” and “an idiot” for liking the show and proceeded to block her on the app.

Unsurprisingly she was a little shocked by the outburst.

“I thought we got on really well,” she said. “He’s meant to be like this doctor, he’s self-employed. I thought he had his head screwed on, he was an older guy.

“I kept saying to him, ‘I don’t want to get into it, I’m not particularly fussed, I just watch it’ and it kept going on and on.

“The whole thing ended with him calling me an idiot and then blocking me.”

She just wanted to watch Love Island in peace

But then just a few days later, Andrew realised he might have made a mistake.

He unblocked Charlotte and attempted to apologise, writing: “I just want to apologise for my outbursts the other day, was totally uncalled for.

“I don’t expect us to continue talking of course and understand but I’ve reflected and realised I was in the wrong so I’m sorry. All the best.”

Charlotte didn’t bother replying, but he tried once again unsuccessfully to get her attention a day later, asking: “Can we start again?”

She didn’t reply to that either, adding that it was for the best if they didn’t date as there would definitely have been plenty more fights over Love Island in their future.
