Wojciech Szczesny details Arsene Wenger's reaction to White Hart Lane selfie


Former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has revealed that the only time Arsene Wenger ever lost his temper with him was after he took a famous selfie following a win over Tottenham.

An early goal from Tomas Rosicky gave the Gunners a 1-0 win over their big rivals at White Hart Lane in 2014, and Arsenal have not beaten Spurs away in the Premier League since.

Following full-time a clearly delighted Szczesny – who now plays for Juventus – took a picture of himself along with Lukas Podolski and Kieran Gibbs in front of the celebrating away fans and posted it to social media.

But speaking to Arsenal’s In Lockdown podcast, Szczesny said Wenger was far from impressed with the actions of his No.1 ‘keeper.

When asked if he had ever received a telling off by Wenger during his time at the club, Szczesny replied: “I had one where he wasn’t happy, that was the famous selfie at White Hart Lane.

“He wasn’t exactly happy about that one and looking back at it I would never do it again. But I think I was 21 or 22 year old at the time and you really enjoy those kind of things and it was great for me back then.

“Now looking back at it, it was probably childish and I know he wasn’t happy with that one at the time. No punishments whatsoever, but he let me know.

Although Wenger was clearly not delighted with Szczesny’s conduct, Gunners supporters are a huge fan of the picture, and still regularly use it to taunt the Spurs faithful.
