Winter travel: Britons’ favourite December destination revealed – will you visit?

CHRISTMAS is one of the busiest times of year for travel, with between four and seven million people jetting off over the festive period last year alone according to ABTA. While flying to visit family and friends across the globe may be anticipated, the winter months are increasingly becoming the ideal time for a vacation.

New data from WeSwap has revealed that one nation, in particular, comes out on top as the UK’s favourite winter holiday hotspot.

According to the research, which took into account the holiday preferences of 500,000 customers, it seems the United States is the ultimate destination for a winter holiday.

Whether its Christmas shopping in New York, a ski vacation in Aspen or making the most of the winter sun in Los Angeles, Britons are heading for the US in their droves.

Famed for their Christmas markets in December, many travellers are jetting off for mini-breaks as part of their celebrations.

Portugal and Greece also made it onto the list, just offering milder temperatures than those back at home and with only a short plane journey.

Canada came in sixth place, it’s stunning snow-covered peaks, ski resorts and winter scenery ideal for winter activities.

However, it seems many Britons also want a taste of the summer in the colder months.

Boasting peak sunshine and optimum temperatures, both Australia and New Zealand boast a perfect opportunity to enjoy hot climates in the winter months.

Rob Stross, CMO of WeSwap said: “It is great to see the diverse range of destinations that Brits are keen to travel to during the Christmas period. “It seems that people are keener now than ever before to make experiences with friends and family, and holidaymakers are even more focused on taking part in activities beyond the traditional excursions, looking to enhance their experiences with ones tailored to preferences like thrill-seeking or wellbeing.”

The full list is as follows:

1.America
