Will.i.am reveals wildcard winner as The Voice semi-final delayed

The semi-finals for The Voice UK have been delayed due to the coronavirus outbreak – but the show will most definitely go on.

Coach Will.i.am took to the official Instagram page of the ITV singing competition today to let fans know the results of the public lifeline vote.

Fans are given the chance to bring back one of their favourite acts from the knockout rounds every series, but proceedings have been interrupted this year by the global health pandemic.

Black Eyed Peas star Will wanted to give them an update and reassure the judges and other eight contestants will be back to finish off what they started, and they’ll have a new addition in their fold.

The judges have vowed they will be back

In the message posted online, Will explained: “Because of what’s going on in the world, we have delayed the live semi-final and the final of this series of The Voice UK.

“However, I wanted to give you a bit of news. The results of your lifeline votes are in.

“So, drumroll please… Doug Sure will be joining the other eight contestants to continue in the competition.

“I wanted to say a huge thank you and I’m thrilled that Doug, on Team Will, is still on his journey to win The Voice UK.”

Will reminded viewers they can still get their weekly fix of the show, also starring Olly Murs, Sir Tom Jones and Meghan Trainor, in an ITV special which will be transmitted in the regular programme’s slot.

Will, who now has three acts on his team, added: “Also, if you’re missing the show, you can still tune in tonight at 8.30pm on ITV and watch some of the most memorable bits from this year and previous seasons.”

After receiving the news he would be returning to the show, Doug said: “I’m truly honoured to have been saved by the public and can’t wait to see the others in the live semi-finals.

“My thanks to everyone for the support and can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Olly, Meghan and Sir Tom each have two acts remaining in the competition.

The Voice UK: Most Memorable Moments airs on ITV tonight at 8.30pm
