Will Bayley: Strictly star reveals he ‘can’t move his neck’ in painful injury admission

Will Bayley, 31, took to Instagram to reveal he has sustained a painful neck injury while training for his week five Strictly Come Dancing 2019 routine. The Paralympic table tennis player is taking on a Contemporary dance with his professional partner Janette Manrara, 35, during tonight’s live show. However, it seems the athlete experienced a couple of setbacks in training this week. In a video shared with Janette’s 286,000 followers, the dancer explained they were both “happy” with their progress in spite of the fact Will “can’t feel his neck”.

She said: “Happy Janette and happy Will!

“He can’t feel his neck, it’s a bit sore.”

The pro then imitated the vigorous neck movements from the routine which seemingly caused Will’s injury.

She added: “But good day today wasn’t it?”

“It’s been great, it’s been good! Emotional, but good,” Will replied.

However, when Will returned home he admitted he was in need of treatment for his sore muscles.

The Strictly hopeful explained to his 30,000 followers: “Just want to show you my little device to keep me fresh.

“Well I say fresh, I’m dying and can hardly move my neck, but fresh.”

The star then turned his camera around to show the device he is using.

He continued: “I’ve got my little Pain Pod here. It’s like an electrical kind of thing.

“Just keeps me ticking over.”

Will suffers from arthrogryposis, which is a rare condition affecting all four of his limbs.

The condition causes curved and/or stiff joints, alongside muscle weakness.

Will opened up about his Couples’ Choice dance routine in an Instagram post yesterday.

“This week’s dance is going to mean so much to me,” he divulged.

The athlete added: “It’s very deep, it’s about my childhood and all the obstacles I’ve overcome.”

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 6.40pm on BBC One.
