Stormzy has been praised as ‘a gift from God’ after making history as the first Black British solo artist to headline Glastonbury Festival at the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm.

Now fellow grime artist Wiley responded to the 25-year-old’s critically acclaimed performance on Friday night after, Stormzy paid tribute to him for being a pioneer in the genre in the middle of his set.

During his iconic performance, The Shut Up rapper also paid his respects to Dizzee Rascal, Chipmunk and Kano as he listed 65 acts who have made history – or who are creating history – in the UK music scene.

Speaking to NME, Wiley said: ‘You know what? I think one day God sent us Dizzee Rascal. One day God sent us Kano. I think on this day God sent these kids Stormzy.

‘I believe that Stormzy was sent by God – and I’m thankful he was sent. And all the stuff he’s done, I just can’t believe he’s done it in such a short space of time because of how long it took us.’

The 40-year-old added: ‘It’s like passing tests, or passing exams. I’ve never witnessed anyone come along and pass the exams as fluently as Stormzy did musically.’

Wiley’s interview comes two days after Stormzy’s monumental set was hailed as ‘sensational’ with fans heaping him with praise ever since.

Leading the way was singer Adele, who wrote a heartfelt Instagram post that it was a ‘joy to watch’ him ‘unfold at lightning speed with absolute grace.’

Stormzy, who wore a Banksy designed Union Jack stab-proof jacket during his performance, took the time to thank friends and family in a lengthy post and went into detail about how his legendary slot at the festival came to life.

‘I opened my set with words of encouragement from my hero and ultimate inspiration and the greatest rapper to ever grace planet Earth, Jay-Z,’ he said.

‘I got to sing with the most incredible and legendary man I know – Chris Martin – a man who’s genius I am so in awe of that it makes me go to the studio and try to emulate him.
