Wigan Athletic 1-0 Nottingham Forest: Jamal Lowe goal ends Reds' 10-game unbeaten run

Jamal Lowe opened his Wigan account on his ninth Championship start for the Latics

Jamal Lowe’s first Wigan goal ended Nottingham Forest’s 10-game unbeaten run to dash the visitors’ hopes of going top of the Championship.

A three-goal victory would have taken Forest to the summit but Lowe exchanged passes with Gavin Massey to net the decisive effort from close range 10 minutes before the break.

Wigan, who climb two places to 18th after a third successive home win, twice struck the woodwork through Charlie Mulgrew’s free-kick and Kal Naismith’s late effort.

Forest created enough chances to have earned at least a point but Rafa Mir and Lewis Grabban both missed gilt-edged opportunities as Sabri Lamouchi’s side remain fourth.

More to follow.
