William Saliba has returned to Arsenal’s London Colney training complex to continue his rehabilitation from a groin injury.

Arsenal signed the highly-rated 18-year-old for £27million earlier this summer, beating Tottenham to his services but were forced to loan him back to Saint-Etienne as part of the deal

The teenager has been troubled by a groin injury since the end of last season and underwent surgery in August, a procedure that was signed off by Arsenal.

‘Saliba had an operation earlier this week. We will take our time with his return,’ said Saint-Etienne coach Ghislain Printant last month.

Saliba returned to north London on Friday for the first time since confirmation of his move and did some light ball work, training away from the rest of the first team squad and wearing the No.17 squad number vacated by Alex Iwobi following his transfer to Everton.

Arsenal travel to Watford, meanwhile, on Sunday looking to extend a promising start to the new season which has seen them take seven points from 12 available.

‘I think we can improve in all situations: offensively and defensively,’ said head coach Unai Emery.

‘Really, we have players and we have more options in the next weeks, and I am optimistic that we can work and we can have players to improve in all things, defence and attack.’
