Unlike the quest for subtle plastic tweaks that was the preserve of Noughties celebrities, the next generation of young women are fulling owning their cosmetic treatments, and actually want their ‘work’ to be noticeable, according to Harley Street plastic surgeon, Dr Dirk Kremer.
After noticing a dramatic increase in female patients aged 20-29 requesting face-shaping cosmetic procedures such as derma fillers, chemical peels and Botox injections, Dr Kremer coined the term ‘rich girl face’, a rising phenomenon where young women exhibit their enhancements with pride on social media.
Driven by the visibility of cosmetically-enhanced reality TV stars on shows such as Made in Chelsea and Real Housewives, as well as the never-ending pursuit for the perfect selfie on social media, young women are now taking to Instagram to showcase their regular use of cosmetic treatments.
“The puffed and plumped ‘rich face’ aesthetic is practically the new Louis Vuitton handbag in certain circles – an instant, recognisable marker of wealth and status,” explains Dr Kremer.
“Unlike generations before them, this new class of cosmetic injectee doesn’t hide its enhancements in shame. Rather, its plumped-up lips and puffer-fish cheeks are often a source of pride.”
Getting the ‘rich girl face’ doesn’t come cheap, though. According to Dr Kremer, anti-wrinkle injections cost upwards of £180, per facial area, while lip and cheek fillers like Restylane and Juvederm ring in at about £200 per syringe, and must be retouched every 6-12 months.
