Why Paul Pogba will thrive at Real Madrid in a way he simply can't at Man Utd

Former Real Madrid hero Claude Makelele reckons Paul Pogba would flourish at the Bernabeu if he joins from Manchester United this summer.

Pogba has been strongly linked with a summer switch to the Spanish giants, and Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is a long-term admirer of the star.

The midfielder has endured a tough season at Old Trafford but that seemingly hasn’t put Madrid off, who are preparing for a huge squad overhaul at the end of the season.

Madrid are also reportedly keeping tabs on Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe, though it remains to be seen if the French giants would be willing to sell.

Paul Pogba could leave Manchester United for Real Madrid this summer

Makelele is a fan of both French World Cup winners, though he thinks it’s unlikely that Mbappe will seal a move to Madrid this summer.

He told Radio Marca : “I love both. I would sign both if I could but it is complicated because I don’t think they (PSG) would let him go right now.

“I think Pogba is a great option for Real Madrid right now. At United, he has to do everything and at Madrid he would be well supported.

“(Eden) Hazard has the same problem as Pogba – he has to do everything at Chelsea .

“If he joins Madrid it would be different because he would have other quality team-mates and his role would be more specific.”

Makelele enjoyed a glittering career, winning La Liga twice and the Champions League during his time with Madrid.

He later moved to the Premier League to join Chelsea, a spell which saw him win two Premier League titles.

The former midfielder also won 71 caps for France where he played alongside Zidane, and he has hailed the current Madrid boss.

“Zidane is the perfect coach for Real Madrid, he is an example,” he added.
