Mick Molloy reveals why he feels like he let Channel Nine down after being sacked by the network TWICE

Mick Molloy was sacked by Channel Nine in 1999 after his comedy sketch The Mick Molloy show was a ratings disaster.

The 54-year-old was rehired in 2007 to host news-based comedy show The Nation, but the program failed to secure an audience and was axed after two months.

On Wednesday, Mick admitted he feels like he has let Channel Nine down after the network ‘showed a lot of faith in me’.

‘I’m disappointed for Nine, they showed a lot of faith in me. I feel I owe them one,’ he told Herald Sun’s Sacked: Showbiz podcast.

‘Whether they’re up for round three at any stage… is another story.’

Mick went on to say: ‘I felt bad, they backed me twice and it would give me relief at some stage before I finish up to have cracked a code for Channel Nine.’

In 1999, Nine commissioned Mick’s eponymous sketch comedy program, The Mick Molloy show.

The show was axed after just eight weeks due to low ratings after it failed to secure an audience.

The comedian was later rehired by the network in 2007 to host news-based comedy program, The Nation.

The show premiered in June 2007 but was axed two months later in August due to low ratings.

The Nation was a sketch comedy series which covered all major political and news events.

It premiered to 772,000 metro viewers but the final episode only managed to secure 413,000.
