Jamie Vardy was a notable absentee from the Leicester squad to face West Ham on Saturday evening and it’s been revealed that it’s due to his wife Rebekah giving birth.
The Premier League’s top goalscorer, who has banged in 17 goals this season, and wife Rebekah welcomed their third child earlier on Friday, meaning he didn’t make the trip to London.
‘Jamie Vardy’s wife had a child today, so he’s with her and congratulations to them,’ Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers ahead of the match.
West Ham vs Leicester
West Ham XI: Fabianski, Fredericks, Balbuena, Diop, Masuaku, Rice, Sanchez, Fornals, Lanzini, Anderson, Haller
Leicester XI: Schmeichel, Justin, Morgan, Evans, Fuchs, Mendy, Choudury, Albrighton, Perez, Gray, Iheanacho
He wasn’t the only change after the 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool, far from it.
Rodgers made nine changes, with only Kasper Schmeichel and Jonny Evans keeping their places.
The team selection is unlikely to be popular with Fantasy Premier League managers, with Vardy, James Maddison and Caglar Soyuncu all among the most owned players and all out of the starting XI.
