Why Jose Mourinho could stop Paul Pogba sealing dream transfer from Man Utd to Real Madrid

Jose Mourinho becoming Real Madrid manager would mean Paul Pogba would no longer want to join the La Liga giants, claims ESPN FC pundit Craig Burley.

Mourinho is the favourite to become the next Real boss if Zinedine Zidane is to leave the club.

Pogba has made it clear in the past it would be a “dream” to join Los Blancos and he was constantly linked with a move away from Manchester United in the summer.

However, Pogba and Mourinho did not see eye-to-eye to say the least during their time together at Old Trafford, before the Portuguese was sacked by the Red Devils last December.

Burley says therefore Pogba would look to join another club if Jose Mourinho returned to the Bernabeu hot-seat.

“Well he wouldn’t want to go there, that is a good point,” the former Chelsea midfielder said.

“He would not want to go there so he’d probably just go to Barcelona or back to Juventus or PSG or somewhere else.

“I think he wants out no matter what, eventually.”

Real Madrid have won just two of their opening four La Liga games and suffered a 3-0 defeat at PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday.

And Burley does not think it will be long before Zidane is under pressure from the club’s hierarchy.

“I’d imagine [Zidane is under] quite a bit [of pressure],” he added.

“I don’t know how much from Florentino Perez, the president, at the moment but certainly from the fans and then the fans will put pressure on their president and then it all sort of rolls down onto the manager.

“And I think this is generally off the back of a well-documented horrendous performance in Paris, and it was.

“I’m just wondering whether he’s already thinking ‘why did I go back for a second spell at this club when I had so much success first time around, particularly in the Champions League?’.”
