Why is the new run of Top Boy called season one on Netflix?

It’s being reported that Netflix wanted to brand the new episodes from what we thought was season three as Top Boy.

This evidently means that the previous two seasons are separate from the third run, which is why the streaming firm has decided to label those as Top Boy: Summerhouse.

Summerhouse refers back to the Summerhouse Estate, the location which characters such as Dushane, Sully and Dris reside.

The original series premiered on Channel 4 in 2011, but following its second run in 2013, the television network decided to axe the series, leaving fans in shock.

By November, 2017, however, it was reported that Canadian rapper Drake had revived the show after negotiating a deal with Netflix.

The following year, fans were treated to even better news: many of their favourite characters were set to reprise their famous roles, including Ashley Walters and Kane Robinson.

At the London premiere, located at the Hackney Picture house, Drake explained: “I want to thank you all so much for allowing me to be a part of this.

“I just hope it’s half as captivating as Love Island and we’ll be on our way.”

What will happen in the new series of Top Boy about?

The award-winning show originally aired on Channel 4 from 2011 to 2013 and attracted an international audience thanks to its hard-hitting story lines about life on a London council estate.

Series three picks up as Dushane (Ashley Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market.

He teams up with Sully (Kane Robinson), his spiritual brother, partner and sometime rival who is also returning to the same streets after his own form of exile – prison – comes to an end.

Awaiting them both is Jamie (Michael Ward), the young, hungry and ruthless gang leader whose ambitions leave no place for Dushane and Sully.
