Who is Jeremy Hunt’s wife Lucia Guo?

Jeremy Hunt met Lucia Guo at a Hotcourses event in Warwick in 2008.

After swapping contact details, the pair began dating and married a year later after Jeremy proposed near his parents’ Surrey home.

They wed in a traditional Chinese ceremony in Xian, China.

Together they went on to form a real estate business together called Mare Pond Properties Limited.

Previously referred to as “Jeremy Hunt’s secret weapon”, Lucia watched her husband launch his bid to become the leader of the Conservative Party on June 10, 2019.

He reasoned that anger against immigrants will increase unless more is done to curb the number of people coming to the UK.

What was ‘Japanese-Chinese’ gaffe?

Jeremy Hunt owned up to a “terrible” gaffe after calling his Chinese wife “Japanese”– during a trip to China to improve relations.

The Foreign Secretary, on a trip to China in July 2018, was trying to curry favour with his hosts but quickly realised his dreadful error.

In his first big foreign trip in the role, he mentioned his spouse Lucia Guo as he held a meeting with his counterpart, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Cameras picked him up saying: “My wife is Japanese – my wife is Chinese.”

After quickly correcting his error he added: “That’s a terrible mistake to make.”
