Whoopi Goldberg gets emotional as Patrick Stewart invites her back to 'Star Trek'


Whoopi Goldberg got all misty-eyed, after Sir Patrick Stewart invited her back to the Star Trek fold.

Stewart was appearing on chat show The View in the US, plugging his new series Star Trek: Picard a day ahead of its worldwide debut.

So, of course, the pair got to talking about their time together on the veteran sci-fi series.

Goldberg played Guinan, the wise and mysterious El-Aurian bartender in the Ten-Forward lounge aboard the starship USS Enterprise-D, first introduced in the second series of Star Trek: The Next Generation in 1988.

Her character would often chew the fat with Stewart’s Picard, often providing invaluable counsel and advice.

“Alex Kurtzman, who is the senior executive producer of Star Trek: Picard and all of his colleagues of which I am one, want to invite you into the second season,” Stewart announced to the unsuspecting talk show host, to howls from the studio audience.

Later in the segment, Goldberg added that she’d ‘had the best, best, best time, best time ever’, making the show, and got a little bit choked up.

“It was wonderful having you, and we cannot wait to have you with us again one more time,” Stewart added.

Goldberg appeared in 29 episodes of the series in all, as well as the spin-off movies Star Trek Generations and Star Trek: Nemesis.

Star Trek: Picard, meanwhile, lands in the UK via Amazon Prime Video from tomorrow.
