Who Will Direct Halloween 2? Jason Blum Hopes David Gordon Green Returns

Last Halloween we were finally hit with Blumhouse and director David Gordon Green’s direct sequel to John Carpenter’s classic slasher movie Halloween. Recently we passed along word that the film is getting a sequel and Jamie Lee Curtis is all set to return to the iconic role of Laurie Strode. While that’s all well and good, what we’re really wondering is whether or not Pineapple Express and Your Highness director David Gordon Green will be back behind the camera for this new Halloween 2.

While there has still been no confirmation on the matter, even though the new movie is set to begin shooting sometime soon after Labor Day, today we have word via Halloween and Get Out producer Jason Blum that he sure hopes Green returns for Blumhouse’s Halloween 2. Blum revealed this fact to a fan over on Twitter.

Now while this new Halloween movie could very easily replace David Gordon Green behind the camera, I for one hope they keep the man employed as director. After all, the filmmaker isn’t just known for his slapstick comedies. Green also has some stellar dramas under his belt as well including Joe starring Nicolas Cage, Manglehorn with Al Pacino, and Stronger with Jake Gyllenhaal. Not to mention the man’s extensive indie background which includes classics such as Prince Avalanche with Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch, and Snow Angels with Kate Beckinsale and Sam Rockwell.

As mentioned above, the most recent Halloween movie saw the return of Jamie Lee Curtis as sole Michael Myers survivor, Laurie Strode along with Judy Greer as her daughter Karen Nelson, and Andi Matichak as her granddaughter, Allyson Nelson. Will Patton joined them as Deputy Frank Hawkins, along with Virginia Gardner as Vicky, Haluk Bilginer as Dr. Ranbir Sartain, and Toby Huss as Laurie’s son-in-law Ray Nelson. Oh, and let’s not forget James Jude Courtney took over the role of Michael Myers from original The Shape actor Nick Castle, who appears as Michael in a cameo during “the window scene.”

David Gordon Green directed 2018’s direct sequel to John Carpenter’s Halloween from a screenplay that he co-wrote along with Eastbound & Down and Pineapple Express star Danny McBride and Vice Principals writer Jeff Fradley based on characters created by Carpenter and Debra Hill. Jason Blum produced this latest Halloween movie along with long-time Halloween producer Malek Akkad, and District 9, Elysium producer Bill Block. Carpenter returned to score this new nightmare along with his son, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies. Michael Simmonds handled the movie’s cinematography while Tim Alverson edited it all together. Miramax, Blumhouse Productions, Trancas International Films, and Rough House Pictures were the production companies behind the sequel which was distributed by Universal Pictures into a theater near you back on October 19, 2018.
