Ellie Goulding, engaged to be married today in a lavish wedding ceremony that is currently underway, has proved herself a celebrity go-to when it comes to high-profile weddings after she is reported to have performed at both the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding reception and at the wedding of her friend Princess Eugenie last year.
The Brit Award-winning singer is now set to have a royal wedding-style ‘do of her own with Fait Accompli – a world-renowned event organisation company who Vogue reports helped to plan both Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle’s wedding receptions – assisting Ellie and her fiancé plan their day.
But who is Ellie Goulding’s soon-to-be-husband? We take a look at the lucky man marrying the singer today and look back at the star’s former boyfriends – both rumoured and confirmed – from the beginning of her career until recent years.
Who is Ellie Goulding engaged to?
Ellie Goulding is engaged and getting married to Caspar Jopling, a 27-year-old art dealer who was living in New York when the pair first met.
A Harvard University graduate and ex-rower, it is thought that his connection to the art world was what led him to Ellie. Caspar is a friend of Princess Eugenie, who is a director at the London art gallery Hauser & Wirth and is said to have been the mutual friend who introduced the now-engaged couple.
Originally from Yorkshire, Ellie and Caspar are apparently returning to his roots for their nuptials and are said to be tying the knot in York Cathedral followed by a wedding party at a stunning stately home in Yorkshire to celebrate.
Ellie Goulding and Greg James
BBC Radio 1 DJ Greg James met Ellie at one of her live performances early on in her career. The pair hit it off and started dating in August 2010, appearing on red carpets together as a public couple, before splitting 18 months later in January 2012.
Ellie Goulding and Skrillex
Following her split from Greg, Ellie went on to meet Skrillex, real name Sonny John Moore, while she was working in LA. Although their relationship started as purely professional while they were working on a track together, a romance soon blossomed between the pair.
Speaking to You magazine at the time she said: “I became very good friends with Sonny when we worked together and after that we realised we wanted to spend a lot of time together. Although we are very similar, I didn’t see it coming at all, especially after such a sad time breaking up with Greg [James, BBC Radio 1 DJ].’
Unfortunately, with their hectic touring and work schedules, the pair ended up splitting in late 2012 with Elliie confirming that the only reason they went their separate ways was because: ‘we didn’t see each other enough.’

British actor Jeremy Irvine, who is best known for appearing in the film War Horse, met Ellie in late 2012 after she had split from Skrillex. The pair dated until August 2013.
Ellie Goulding and Calvin Harris
This is a question still shrouded in mystery. Many fans believe that the pair had a brief romance in 2013, but this could just be because the artists have insanely cute chemistry in the music video they did together for I Need Your Love.
Whether they dated or not, the two stars seem like friends and have collaborated again since their 2013 hit to make Outside together in 2014.
Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran
Another fan-theory with the flames fanned by super suggestive music and lyrics, people believe that Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding dated at one stage, but things ended badly. Fans believe that Ed Sheeran’s song Don’t, which is about a girl he once dated that cheated on him, is about Ellie Goulding. Ouch.
‘I wasn’t looking for a promise or commitment/But it was never just fun and I thought you were different/This is not the way you realize what you wanted/It’s a bit too much, too late if I’m honest,’ Ed sings on the track. It’s certainly a burn whoever he wrote it about.
Ellie Goulding and Niall Horan
The guy that Ed Sheeran is rumoured to be singing about in Don’t is One Direction star Niall Horan. Ellie briefly dated him in 2013, so timing-wise the fan theory adds up.
Ed also alluded to the rumour being true in an interview in 2015, when he stated that while he will never officially confirm who his song Don’t is about, ‘everyone knows anyway.’
‘Don’t’ is just a song that’s close to the bone and definitely opened up a door that I probably shouldn’t have opened up…’ Ed told Fuse magazine.
‘I just won’t say who it’s about because… I mean everyone f***ing knows anyway. But like I just won’t say who it’s about cause it’s quite a negative song.’
Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter
The Love Me Like You Do singer dated former McFly band member Dougie Poynter on and off for a couple of years before the couple rekindled their commitment in 2016. However, it was not to last and the pair split later that year with Ellie telling The Sun at the time: ‘Dougie is one of the most special people in the world and I’m so happy for him.
He’s doing well in LA and he’s still one of my best friends. I know he feels the same.’
