Prolific Bollywood composer Wajid Khan has died aged 42.
The movie score composer and member of composing duo Sajid–Wajid died in Mumbai, India on Monday after being admitted to hospital with a fatal kidney infection.
Who was Bollywood composer Wajid Khan?
Khan has been composing music with his brother Sajid Khan since the 1990s. The pair worked under the name Sajid-Wajid.
The duo scored music for movies by Salman Khan such as Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya, Wanted, and Ek Tha Tiger.
They also wrote the theme music for the Indian version of Big Brother called Bigg Boss.
Wajid also had a successful singing career himself. He released his first song, Bang Bang, for Salman.
The last song music duo Sajid-Wajid composed was also for Salman, called Bhai Bhai.
How did he die?
His brother Sajid confirmed to the news agency that the musician had tested positive for COVID-19, and died of cardiac arrest.
Singer Sonu Nigam, wrote in an Instagram post, “My brother Wajid left us.”
Fellow music composer Salim Merchant confirmed his death, saying: “He had multiple issues. He had a kidney issue and had a transplant a while ago.
“But recently he got to know about kidney infection… He was on the ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse.
“Kidney infection was the beginning and then he got critical.”
Indian actress and singer Parineeti Chopra added: “Wajid Bhai you were the nicest, nicest nicest man! Always smiling.
“Always singing. All heart. Every music session with him was memorable. You will truly be missed wajid bhai. #WajidKhan.”
Due to coronavirus restrictions in Mumbai, only 20 people could attend the funeral, and it was monitored by police security and barricades.
A source said “Only close family, including brother Sajid and friends from the industry were present.”
Wajid’s mentor Salman Khan tweeted: “Wajid Vil always love, respect, remember n miss u as a person n ur talent, Love u n may your beautiful soul rest in peace …”
