Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Jeremy Clarkson left red faced after Phone a Friend blunder

Who Wants to be a Millionaire saw another collection of players jump on stage to fight for one million pounds this evening alongside Jeremy Clarkson.

However the second contestant of the evening, Michael, had some trouble in getting through to question 11.

In his time of trouble, Michael decided to rely on his lifelines for some help.

Unfortunately, after using a number of lifelines earlier in the show, he was restricted in what he could use.

Eventually he settled on phoning a friend – Anne.

As the phone rang, Jeremy prepared to introduce Anne, and tell her the rules of the phone call.

However when the phone was picked up, Jeremy announced: “Hello Anne!”

To which she vacantly responded: “Hello Michael.”

Jeremy stuttered during his response, as he said: “Um nope, not absolutely right.”

The live audience laughed at the interaction, prompting Jeremy to continue: “It’s Jeremy Clarkson here…”

Fans of the show didn’t miss the beat, as one tweeted: “‘Hello Michael,’ ‘No!’ #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire #wwtbam,” alongside a number of emojis.

Another joked: “She has a researcher in her house, sack them Hello Michael #WhoWantsToBeAMillionaire.”

Last night’s episode of the show saw Jeremy a little lost for words as his contestant supposedly wasted a lifeline.

Contestant Cain was eager to get his final question correct, and did not want to risk anything.

With this in mind he went on to ask the audience.

When the results came through Jeremy announced: “Well 42% have gone for matchsticks.”

Cain then went on impulsively say: “You know what, julienne fries. Can I go matchsticks final answer please?”

After a pause, Jeremy muttered: “Literally wasted a lifeline.”

Cain went on to go home with £8,000 at the end of the competition.

Who Wants to be a Millionaire returns tomorrow at 8pm on ITV.
