Intrigued by Emily’s Vespa riding beau?
Here’s everything we know about Eugenio Franceschini, including what he’s said about his role as Marcello on Emily in Paris.
Who is Eugenio Franceschini, the actor who plays Marcello in Emily in Paris?
Eugenio Franceschini is an Italian actor from Verona, Italy’s Veneto region.
Though an established film and TV star in Italy today, Franceschini first got into acting through theatre productions at his parents’ company.
With his father Gianni Franceschini a well established theatre actor in his own right, Eugenio followed in his father’s footsteps, taking on several lead roles in productions at his parents’ theatre company Viva Opera Circus.
In a 2012 interview with Vanity Fair Italia, Franceschini said “I discovered my passion for acting thanks to my father, a Veronese son of farmers who, after graduating in Medicine, gave up everything to be a street actor. His father never forgave him for that. In Bologna he met my mother, an actress, good at puppets and children’s theatre. Together they travelled the world, and I with them.”
He explained, “I worked with my father for two years, alone, putting on shows. He was the one who told me that street theatre was no longer a viable option, so I decided to try cinema. I didn’t think I’d get into the school audition, only 18 out of 800 got through. When the results came out, I was with Dad in a bed and breakfast in Bilbao: It was the first time I saw him cry.”
