Who Mauricio Pochettino dedicated Tottenham's first win in new stadium to

Mauricio Pochettino hailed a ‘special’ victory as Tottenham won their first game in their new stadium – and he immediately dedicated the victory to chairman Daniel Levy.

Spurs were instantly at home in the £1bn Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Son Heung-Min and Christian Eriksen scoring in a 2-0 win that fired Pochettino’s men back up to third place in the Premier League.

Pochettino hailed the new 62,000-capacity ground as “the best stadium in the world” and praised Levy after Tottenham’s long-awaited housewarming went exactly to plan.

“It’s a special moment, a special night,” the Tottenham boss told BBC Sport. “I feel and believe it is the best stadium in the world.

“We knew the game was going to be difficult and tough. You don’t know how we’re going to react but, playing the way we played in the first half, we were going to score.

“I’m pleased for (chairman) Daniel Levy because of this fantastic project and I dedicate that victory to him.

“The emotion was amazing from the beginning. To win was so important to us. Today we touched the glory. Now we need to touch the glory of lifting trophies. Now is the start of a chapter. We close one chapter and open another chapter and bring victory to our fans.”

The race for third and fourth in the Premier League is desperately tight, with Arsenal and Chelsea just a point behind Tottenham, and Manchester United two points further back. Arsenal have a game in hand over each of the other three contenders.

But Pochettino said: “I am confident we are going to finish in the top four. Tottenham is going to be a real contender for the big things.

“It’s true, lot of work to do, competing with big clubs who invest a lot of money, with different tools but we have the belief and we have our new home and our fans were amazing.”
