The Christmas Number 1 is a much-coveted accolade, with the likes of the Spice Girls, Leona Lewis and Rage Against the Machine claiming the honour over the years.

This year’s race to snag the spot came down to a face-off between Stormzy and ‘Dad blogger’ LadBaby’s I Love Rock’n’Roll spoof I Love Sausage Rolls.

Here’s who came out on top…

Who is the Christmas Number 1?

For the second year in a row, LadBaby holds the Christmas Number 1 spot.

The I Love Sausage Rolls anthem, done to the tune of Joan Jett’s classic rock anthem, scored a massive 93,000 in sales and streams.

Stormzy’s song, Own It, featuring Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran had to settle for number two and Lewis Capaldi rounds off the top 3 with Before You Go.

Stormzy and co. might not mind too much though because it’s all for a good cause as LadBaby was using the song to raise money for charity.

LadBaby also held the Christmas Number 1 spot last year, with another spoof cover – We Built This City (On Sausage Rolls) – which shifted around 75,000 combined sales and streams.

How much did Ladbaby raise for the Trussell Trust?

For the second year in a row, LadBaby was raising money for the foodbank charity the Trussell Trust.

Though the official amount isn’t yet known, having sold 18,000 more copies of their single this year, it looks likely that he’ll have beaten last year’s £70,000.

Speaking on This Morning, LadBaby’s wife Roxanne previously said: ‘We weren’t going to do it until two months ago but we realised that last year that we raised £70K for emergency food packages last year and we thought we want to do it again.’

Who is LadBaby?

LadBaby’s real name is Mark Hoyle, a dad-of-two from Nottingham who lives in Hemel Hempstead with his wife Roxanne.

His career took off after launching a YouTube channel in 2016, documenting his ‘lad to dad’ journey.

His channel now has over 772,000 subscribers.

After finding out he has won the Christmas Number 1 for a second year, Hoyle said: ‘Thank you so much to everybody that downloaded the song, that streamed it, that got us to number one again.

It’s all for the Trussell Trust, it’s all for people in the UK living in poverty, the 14 million people. So thank you so much.’

By having consecutive Christmas Number 1s, LadBaby finds himself in very prestigious company.

The only other acts to do the same are The Beatles with I Want To Hold Your Hand in 1963, I Feel Fine in 1964 and Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out in 1965, and The Spice Girls with 2 Become 1 in 1996, Too Much in 1997 and Goodbye in 1998.
