Who is quitting Coronation Street? All the favourites in the firing line

CORONATION Street is set to change forever as one iconic cast member doesn’t return from a group trip to Blackpool.

A significant chunk of the Weatherfield crew are heading to the northern seaside town, famed for the Pepsi Max rollercoaster and Kiss Me Quick T-Shirts for the sombre scattering of Rita Tanner’s ex husband’s ashes.

Corrie fans have been speculating who will quit in the iconic 10,000th episode

Long-time fans of the ITV soap will recall how Dennis made a brief return to the Street in 2014 but bosses have killed him off for good to mark the 10,000th episode.

And it appears one character will become so taken with the rough diamond ‘Vegas of the North’ resort they will never again return.

The full list of characters going on the trip is: Amy, Audrey, Carla, Eileen, Emma, Evelyn, Gail, Jenny, Ken, Mary, Nina, Sean, Tracy, Sally, Yasmeen and Rita – but who will stay put?

Here we detail the conspiracy theories behind each much-loved star.

Amy Barlow had an abortion last year and is travelling with mum Tracy

Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney)

The youngster hasn’t had the easiest ride with Steve McDonald and Tracy as parents.

She even had a secret adoption last year, after becoming pregnant at the age of 14 by gang leader Tyler.

Yet it seems unlikely she will be allowed, or even want, to stay in Blackpool on her own away from all of her family.

Corrie stalwart Audrey's exit would cause a gaping hole in the soap

Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls)

The salon owner is a total Weatherfield stalwart.

An exit would leave Corrie’s hardcore fans devastated, with her character having been the matriarch of the Platt shenanigans.

One fan speculated her exit “would make the 60th anniversary extra poignant.”

Feisty Carla Connors presence on the trip is somewhat unexpected

Carla Connor (Alison King)

Fans are somewhat confused as to Carla’s presence on the road trip but hey, who can resist a multicoloured striped stick of rock anyway?

The character had a busy and sorrowful 2019 after returning to the cobbles, including the suicide of her half-brother Aidan Connor and the Underworld factory collapse in March 2019, which cost Rana Habeeb her life.

So the character is due a little good fortune – will she find this on the Blackpool shores?

Fans think Eileen might stay in Blackpool if she finds romance

Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver)

Cabbie firm receptionist Eileen Grimshaw has also had her rough share of luck, finally escaping murderous lover Pat Phelan and then returning from a move to Bristol.

Therefore, she’s no stranger to a break away from the Cobbles.

Fans are also suggesting the unlucky in love character could find romance with the driver of their bus to Blackpool, played by comedy actor John Henshaw.

One wrote: “If he had been a good character I’d have been happy if he and Eileen had fallen for each other and decided to take a chance at happiness. “Can’t see it though.”

Steve McDonald's biological child is heading to the seaside with her step sister and step mum - so anything could happen

Emma Brooker (Alexandra Mardell)

The bubbly hairdresser is a relative newbie to the Cobbles, arriving in 2018.

Yet in this short time she has discovered she is Steve McDonald’s biological child, and on the trip with her step sister Amy and step mum Tracy, sparks are bound to  fly.

Last year also saw fears she had inherited myotonic dystrophy, an illness suffered by her grandfather Jim McDonald, so that could potentially see her stay in Blackpool – but it’s a long shot.

Evelyn has proved such a hit with soap fans - surely bosses can't let her quit now?

Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman)

Evelyn has quickly rocketed to Corrie gold status since her arrival in 2018 thanks to her cutting comments and sharp wit.

Fans believe she may be in danger after trying to find out the real motive of Jade Rowan, who is nanny to her granddaughter.

Yet with the character a firm favourite – and the rest of her family in Weatherfield – it would be strange if she was the one to stay.

Gail deserves a happy ending after all her family drama - but will this be in Blackpool?

Gail Platt (Helen Worth)

Another Corrie stalwart who has had their share of bad fortune, Gail deserves a 99 and a brisk stroll down the Blackpool promenade for sure.

Yet with the rest of her family bar her mum back on the Cobbles – it would be bizarre of her to stay.

Yet one fan speculated it would be “poignant” if it marked her show exit.

Fans have a VERY dark theory involving Blackpool and Jenny

Jenny Bradley (Sally Ann Matthews)

Jenny will no doubt have the supportive role to play as her adoptive mother, Rita, scatters Dennis’ ashes.

Yet her father was Alan Bradley – Rita’s ex who was killed by a tram – and this has led fans to speculate a very dark Blackpool plot for the character.

One wrote: “Going Blackpool Jenny had a plan all these years to push Rita under a tram in revenge for her dad.

“Sally and Mary realise what she’s up to when she’s telling them about her dad and save Rita with Jenny ending up under the tram the end – hope I’ve not spoilt it for anyone.”

Ken Barlow has little grandson Bertie to look after now - so surely he can't leave

Ken Barlow (William Roache)

The longest-serving member of the Corrie cast surely can’t stay put under the shade of the Blackpool Tower, can he?

And with new grandson Bertie’s arrival on the street just a few months ago, in a tragic plot which saw Bertie’s mum Sinead pass away from cancer, his exit appears all the more unlikely, and unwanted.

The Cobbles would be a lot less cheery without Mary's wit

Mary Taylor (Patti Clare)

As one of the most hilarious members of the Corrie crew, Mary’s exit would surely leave a gaping hole no amount of Roys Rolls could fill.

She has form for upping sticks and leaving – with a move to South Africa in 2016.

Yet will Blackpool have the same allure?

Nina is a new addition to Weatherfield - so fans wonder why shes on the jaunt away

Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher)

Roy Cropper’s niece will surely make a style statement in the sandy town with her Goth styling and jet black make up.

The plotline has only recently seen Nina’s identity revealed and with her battling bullies back at home, there’s a reason for her to stay away.

Could Sean be ditching his sewing machine for new adventures?

Could Sean be ditching his sewing machine for new adventures?

Sean Tully (Antony Cotton)

Sean is a close pal of Eileen, so the pair are set to be a double trouble on their Blackpool trip.

He was attacked as part of a harrowing dark storyline last year and is another who could do with some 2020 cheer.

Actor Antony starred on last year’s Dancing on Ice but could a potential exit be a route to pursue further non-soap TV roles?

Tracy's life of late has been a rollercoaster - so her time on the trip will likely be no different

Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford)

Just last month, Tracy was caught by her daughter in the arms of a woman – despite being married to Steve.

Could her rollercoaster life path be mirrored at Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach.

What’s certain is no outing with Tracy is ever without drama – so expect it by the sandy, beach bucketful on this trip.

Sally's husband is a bigamist - so is it best she flees to Blackpool for good?

18

Sally’s husband is a bigamist – so is it best she flees to Blackpool for good?

Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor)

Sally’s marriage to Tim is already on the rocks after he recently confessed he was a bigamist – so a bit of sea air to clear the cobwebs might be just what she needs.

With Tim’s wife Charlie now working in the Rovers, and her daughter Rosie still away, could this be reason enough to stay in Blackpool?

Fans can't understand how Yasmeen has escaped Geoff to go on the trip

Yasmeen Nazir (Shelley King)

Corrie fans are baffled as to just how Yasmeen can make the trip at all.

One quizzed: “And Geoff lets Yasmeen out of his sight? Or does she escape?”

If it’s the latter, maybe she is the one who doesn’t return home.

Rita is the hot favourite for a Weatherfield exit

Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox)

The main reason for the seaside excursion in the first place is also the most hotly-tipped to quit the soap.

Bookies Coral exclusively told The Sun Online Rita’s odds of quitting are 5/4 – placing her as clear favourite.

Coral’s Harry Aitkenhead told us: “We think Rita might well call it a day after forty years on the Cobbles and she’d be our favourite to have her final episode coincide with the milestone.”

One fan agreed and speculated: “I really hope that Dennis being dead is actually a ruse and that it’s all part of a plot to get Rita to Blackpool to make amends for his past actions.

“I reckon we might actually see Rita being the one to depart the cobbles, especially in light of he loneliness story at Christmas time.”

Abuse victim Yasmeen looks terrified of her ‘gaslighter’ husband Geoff in Coronation Street

The 10,000th episode will air on ITV on Friday February 7 at 7.30pm on ITV.
