Who are BTS, who’s in the band and what are their most popular songs?


FOR too long, Psy held a monopoly over the international fame of South Korean pop musicians – but boy band BTS helped change that.

The seven-strong group avoids embarrassing dance routines and nonsense lyrics to create infectious tunes that fans the world over can’t get enough of – here’s everything you need to know about the band.

Who are BTS and where are they from?

BTS are a pop music boy band from South Korea – the name is an acronym for the Korean phrase Bangtan Sonyeondan which translates to ‘Bulletproof Boy Scouts’ (although they are also known as Bangtan Boys and have adapted their BTS name to also stand for ‘Beyond The Scene’).

Formed in 2013, the group have released six studio albums – three in Korean and three in Japanese – with their 2016 album, Wings reaching number 62 in the UK charts, their 2018 album, Face Yourself, reaching number 78, and 2017 EP, Love Yourself: Her, reaching number 14.

Who’s in BTS?

Similar, almost, to the Spice Girls, the group have stage names that differ to their real names

RM (formerly Rap Monster , born Kim Nam-joon) who is main rapper and leader of the band. The 24-year-old studied in New Zealand and is fluent in English

Jin (born Kim Seok-jin) 25, who is a vocalist and has a degree in art and acting. He is the oldest member of the group. Suga  (born Min Yoon-gi) is also 25 and a rapper with the band.

J-Hope (born Jung Ho-seok), 24, is one of the songwriters of the group and has 77 songs accredited to his name.

Jimin (born Park Ji-min) 23, is the lead vocalist and was the last member to join the band.

Singer V (born Kim Tae-hyung) is 22-years-old while the youngest member is 21-year-old Jungkook (born Jeon Jung-kook).

The group were manufactured by entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment and release tunes through Universal Music.

What are the lyrics to BTS’s hit single Fake Love?

Viewers tuning in to the 2018 Billboard Music Awards will have seen BTS perform their single Fake Love.

The song is a mix of Korean and English and sees the group singing about fake feelings for a romantic interest.

English lyrics include: “I’m so sick of this fake love, fake love, fake love” and “I wanna be a good man just for you/Now I don’t know me, who are you?”

The single is the lead track from the band’s 2018 album, Love Yourself: Tear.

When did the K-Pop band go on Carpool Karaoke with James Corden?

BTS first appeared on James Corden’s The Late Late Show back in 2017 to perform their song DNA.

More recently, they paid the show another visit to perform Fake Love and played one of the show’s classic games, Flinch.

However, on August 29, 2018 James tweeted the band inviting them back on the show, suggesting that it’s time for the band to do their first ever carpool karaoke.

His tweet said: “I want @BTS-twt to come on my show and perform serendipity so bad! Maybe we could even sing it in a #CarpoolKaraoke?”.

This comes after the band’s recent music video debut record in YouTube history, which trumped Taylor Swift’s record as the artist with the biggest music video debut.
