Robyn Crawford revealed that best friend and former lover Whitney Houston would have never dated a white man.

The 56-year-old opened up to actress Lena Waithe for Oprah Magazine about her relationship with the I Wanna Dance With Somebody singer and talked about how much Whitney loved ‘dark-skinned guys’.

Robyn spoke about Whitney’s relationship with ex-husband Bobby Brown as well as her secret engagement with comedian Eddie Murphy.

She confessed: ‘She spent a lot of time with Eddie, I remember she had a few of his shirts. She loved him. Whitney liked dark-skinned guys.

‘She had a type. Like, she would’ve never dated a white man. And you know what? Whitney told her personal assistant Sylvia and I that she wasn’t going to get serious with Bobby. Whatever went on, she showed signs that her heart was really with Eddie.’

Robyn – who was formerly Whitney’s assistant and then creative director – decided to share with the world what it was like being around the troubled singer and finally released her book A Song for You: My Life With Whitney Houston.

In the new book, Robyn goes through the ups and downs of Whitney’s life, confirming the two once dated as well as opening up about her dislike for Bobby.

Speaking on whether she was ever skeptical about her marriage to Bobby, the former creative director said: ‘I didn’t know anything else about him beyond what everyone else knew. That he was a womaniser, that he was over here with this one, that one.

‘But he was obsessed with Whitney. Later on, though, I realised that Bobby never knew Nip. He never got to be her friend.’

Robyn and Whitney had a lot of struggles with each other, and a lot of it included the ‘jealousy’ from her husband Bobby that Whitney wouldn’t do anything about.

The constant jealousy and struggles with her best friend ended up making her leave the star’s inner circle.

In 2009, a few years before her tragic death, the I Will Always Love You songstress revealed to Oprah the severity of Bobby’s anger and jealousy.

She explained: ‘[…] He drank a lot. And for some reason, everything that I did I tried to do to make him happy—it would turn on me. It was weird. Today, I understand it because people that alcoholics love, they try to abuse.

So when we got back to the house—he’s going to hate that I say this—but he spit on me. And my daughter was coming down the stairs, and she saw it.’

Whitney also explained how he would sometimes ‘smash things and break things in the home and once cut her head off a portrait in a family picture’.

Robyn, who was out of her life at this point, told Lena that she wasn’t surprised when she ‘heard Whitney say those things to Oprah’.

‘And I’m sure she left a whole lot out.,’ Robyn added.
