The rumour mill has gone into overdrive with reports that a major female pop star is set to announce her comeback on Thursday 8 August.
Fans of female singers have flocked to social media to speculate who it might be since the news dropped – amid further reports that the mystery singer is set to make guest appearances on all the day’s major chat shows in the US.
The website Popcravenews told its followers on social media: ‘A big female pop star has booked all major late night shows for an unprecedented TV takeover on Thursday, August 8’ – next to a silhouetted photo of the singer.
So who could it be? Here are just some of the candidates…
Adele
It’s been a while since we last heard from Adele, who hasn’t released new music since her 2015 album 25 – so could she be about to say Hello once again and spring a surprise on us all?
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga’s certainly been in the public eye of late thanks to her Oscar-nominated turn in A Star Is Born – but she’s not released an album of new music since 2016’s Joanne.
Rihanna
Riri’s last album Anti was released in 2016 – and she has teased that she’s been working on new material. Is she about to send her fanbase into meltdown?
Selena Gomez
Selena’s name has been heavily suggested on social media along with all of the above – and as she hasn’t released an album since 2015’s Revival she is definitely a contender.
Miley Cyrus
Miley’s name has also been mentioned – and certainly she has been busy lately with an appearance at Glastonbury and in the most recent series of Black Mirror. She has a new album, She Is Miley Cyrus, scheduled for release later this year – could we be about to hear more from it?
Katy Perry
Katy Perry’s dropped new material; this year including the top 20 hit Never Really Over – but hasn’t released an album since 2017’s Witness. Could she be the comeback star?
Beyonce
OK so we know that Bey’s barely been off the radar thanks to The Lion King and its accompanying album – but we’ve not had a whole album of new material from her since Lemonade in 2016. Could she be about to spring a surprise on the talk show viewing public?
All will be revealed on Thursday…
