Which Chaser on The Chase has the highest IQ?

It’s common knowledge that The Chase’s Chasers are supremely clever – and exceptionally good at firing off tough trivia.

But do we know how high their IQs are? Essentially, IQ, which stands for Intelligence Quotient, measures some cognitive abilities and is often considered a way of measuring intellect.

An average score is usually 85 to 111, while only around 9% of people have an IQ over 120, according to the BBC. Over 130 is in the top 1% of the population.

Find out the Chasers’ IQ scores and what it means here.

Which Chaser has the highest IQ?

We know three of ITV’s Chasers – Mark Labbett, Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace – had their IQs tested publicly.

In a January 2021 episode of The Chasers’ Road Trip: Trains, Brains and Automobiles, their knowledge was put to an IQ test.

Mark came out on top with an IQ of 151, much to his delight.

He joked: ‘I was told a total genius is 150, so I’m a pretty poor genius, but a genius I am. I was in smug mode. Now, I’m in uber smug mode!’

An IQ of 151 is very high. Mensa, a famous organisation for those with the highest IQs in the world, require anything from an IQ score of to join 132 to 148 to join, depending on which (supervised, official) test you take.

Meanwhile, Anne scored 137 on her test, also very high, and Shaun got 96, which is considered an average IQ score.

‘Mark and Anne have a natural gift, mine is mainly hard work…’ Shaun said on the show. ‘Children shouldn’t worry about an IQ score. I’m a firm believer intelligence can be learnt.’

What are the other Chasers IQs?

Unfortunately, the three remaining Chasers – Jenny Ryan, Paul Sinha and Darragh Ennis – haven’t revealed their IQ scores publicly.

But we do have an idea of how well they’ve performed against each other over all the series of The Chase.

Fan site One Question Shootout crunched the numbers to find that for series 12, Anne Hegerty is the top chaser – winning 82.9% of the time.

Just behind her is Paul Sinha, aka The Sinnerman, with a series score of 79.4%.

Mark won 73.5% of the time, while Shaun won 64.7% of the time – with Jenny coming in last (with a still very impressive) 63.6%.

Darragh is fairly new to the show – so we’ll find out how he fares after series 14s figures have been calculated.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm.
