It’s the final day of Glastonbury and this year has seen some truly remarkable acts.
Taking the stage at the iconic festival is a big deal for artists; but it also determines whether they will be asked to perform there again.
With 200,000 people in the audience and a live stream to the entire country, it can make or break their future.
Glastonbury has been running for nearly five decades and has offered an impressive roster of headliners throughout the years, but some are more popular than others.
Which artist or band has played Glastonbury Festival the most?
Acts for Glastonbury Festival are carefully chosen by organisers, with new names added every year.
The main stage – known as the Pyramid stage – has also seen recurring performances from artists and bands that appear to have become household favourites.
Here are the bands and artists who have headlined at the festival the most.
Coldplay
2019 marks 10 years since Coldplay first performed at Glastonbury Festival.
The band, fronted by Chris Martin, had only signed its record deal a few months earlier.
They returned the year after and also took the stage in 2005.
In 2016, they became the first-ever band to headline the festival four times.
Van Morrison
His career spans over three decades, which has given him ample opportunity to return to Glastonbury Festival again and again.
Van Morisson has played at the festival a staggering seven times: 1982, 1987, 1989, 1992, 1993, 1997 and 2005.
In other words, he’s a Glasto’ legend.
Oasis
Oasis has played in some of the biggest arenas in the world, but Liam and Noel Gallagher can’t seem to resist Glastonbury.
The band first headlined the festival in 1994, then in 1995 and finally in 2004.
That’s not to say they haven’t returned for solo performances; Liam Gallagher was on the Pyramid stage on his own just the other day.
The Cure
The Cure, fronted by lead singer Robert Smith, are playing at the festival on Sunday night.
It’s a special occasion – the band hasn’t been at Glastonbury Festival since 1995, with two performances before that in 1986 and 1990.
Elvis Costello
Elvis Costello hasn’t been on the Pyramid stage since 1994, however he has played on the smaller stages.
He first performed at the festival in 1987 and two years later, in 1989.
Radiohead
In 2017, Radiohead entered the unofficial Glastonbury hall of fame.
They have now headlined the festival four times, including the first visit in 2003, as well as 2010 and 2011.
To make the moment even more special, it was the 20th anniversary of their third studio album, OK Computer.
