Where to pre-order the PlayStation 5 (PS5)

Ok, we’ll keep it snappy. The PS5 is here and you want to pre-order one now. The bad news is that you can’t: pre-orders have sold out. The good news is that you will be able to soon: Sony has promised more pre-order stock “over the next few days.”

More pressingly, we’ve heard from multiple places that a few retailers will have stock today: Game and Smyth’s in the UK, and GameStop in the US. More details below.

Here, we’re listing all the retailers offering the new console, along with pricing and availability, which we’ll be doing our best to keep up to date as new stock comes in.

How much does the PlayStation 5 cost?

The PS5 will be available in two models. The standard PS5 costs £449/US$499, while the cheaper Digital Edition without a Blu-ray drive costs £359/$399. If you’re not sure which to buy, check out our PS5 vs PS5 Digital Edition comparison for a more detailed breakdown of the differences.

Where to pre-order the PS5

Unsurprisingly, the console is flying off shelves, so pre-order availability is very, very limited.

The first wave of units sold out entirely, with little warning, prompting Sony to actually take to Twitter to apologise for the situation and promise that more stock is on the way.

We’re still waiting for more details on the new stock, and which stores will have some. Before then though, rumour has it that in the UK Game and Smyth’s are both expecting more online stock this morning, so get on those pages and keep an eye out.

Meanwhile in the US, usually reliable Twitter tipster Wario64 says that GameStop will have more stock today too – but only if you turn up in-store. The consoles will also arrive a week or so after launch, rather than on the day, and not every store is guaranteed to have them. Plus this is just a tip, so who knows? But it might be worth a try if you’re free Friday morning and have a GameStop nearby.

In the meantime, the following retailers are still allowing customers to register their interest or request a stock alert, which means you can still get a foot in the door once these stockists start pre-orders again.

Meanwhile, the retailers listed below started pre-orders, but are now out of stock. We’d suggest keeping an eye on these, in case they do re-stock between now and launch.

There are also independent sellers on eBay auctioning the PS5, though we’d advise going through standard retailers if at all possible to avoid potential complications – and exorbitant prices.

It’s also worth noting that it’s been reported that there is less pre-order stock for the PS5 Digital Edition than the regular PS5, with the ratio apparently as high at 80:20 at some stores. That means you should be prepared to pay more for the standard console if you can afford it, as you might have a better chance of securing one.

When is the PS5 release date?

While you can try pre-ordering the device now based on stock availability, there is still a wait until November for the devices to release.

The console will officially go on sale on 12 November in North America, Mexico, Japan, South Korea, Australia, and New Zealand, while sales in the UK and elsewhere begin on 19 November.

If you’re lucky enough to grab a pre-order, here’s the latest on the PS5 launch game lineup so you know what you’ll actually be able to play from day one.
