Where Man Utd transfer pursuits of Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani stand ahead of deadline

Manchester United have taken little action on Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani transfers behind the scenes at Old Trafford, according to reports. The Shanghai Greenland Shenhua and Monaco forwards have emerged as possible loan targets for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is seeking cover for the injured Marcus Rashford.

Manchester United fans have been hoping for the club to sign Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon during the January transfer window.

But with that deal now looking tricky to broker, both Ighalo and Slimani have emerged as targets.

Ighalo has spent the last few years in China – with both Changchun Yatai and Shanghai Shenhua – after previously shining in England with Watford.

Slimani, meanwhile, toiled at Leicester, Fenerbahce and Newcastle before moving to Monaco on loan in the summer.

Both players have been linked amid Solskjaer’s desperate need for firepower.

But Goal claim the Red Devils have taken little action behind the scenes when it comes to signing either player.

Chelsea have been linked with the Uruguay international but his preference is understood to be a move to La Liga titans Atletico Madrid.

Regarding Piatek, and United would want a loan deal.

But AC Milan are seeking a permanent exit for the Poland international, who has fallen behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the pecking order.

Meanwhile, Solskjaer was asked about new signings today.

But the update was negative, with the Norwegian insisting he had no updates to give out.

“I haven’t got any updates for you on transfers,” he said when quizzed on the current situation.

“I think it was a waste [of a question], I gave you the option.

“I haven’t got anything to say now, my mind is on the game.”

Solskjaer did confirm, though, that Marcos Rojo was likely to stay at Old Trafford.

“I wouldn’t think so, Marcos has been injured and is working to get back and get fit again,” he added.
