It is the second time the Austen novel has been turned into a film, with the 1996 version featuring Gywneth Paltrow.

Not only were many of the filming locations across the UK, but many of the houses are available to visit – here is where to find them.

Emma’s house – Firle Place

Located in East Sussex is Firle Place, a Tudor-style structure which was restored in the 18th century.

The house was the location of Emma’s house where she lived with her father.

It was originally built in the 1400s but was changed to look more Georgian than Tudor in 1700s.

While it is still lived in, by Henry Nicholas Gage, 8th Viscount, you can book tours of the house between June and September for just £9.50 per person, as well as book weddings and events in the house.

Highbury – Lower Slaughter

The village of Highbury, where the characters frequently visit to meet and shop, is filmed in Lower Slaughter in the Cotswolds.

Featuring a converted mill and houses, a small bridge connects the two roads across the River Eye, which is often used in the film.

Location Manager Helene Lenszner told PA it was perfect as it has remained un-modernised: “You’re not allowed to have lights outside your house, there are no street lamps – it’s virtually as was.”

Mr Knightley’s house – Wilton House

Wilton House in Wiltshire, built in 1543, was the setting of Mr Knightley’s Donwell Abbey home.

Currently owned by the Earl and Countess of Pembroke, both the interior and exterior grounds were used for the film.

The house is open during Easter weekend in April and from May to September with adult tickets costing £15.50.

It isn’t the first period film it has featured in – it was also used for the 2017 Tomb Raider film, the Netflix series The Crown and the 2004 Pride & Prejudice adaption, as well as many others.

Mr Weston’s house – Chavenage House

The home of Emma’s governess, Anne Taylor Weston, and her husband Mr Weston, was filmed in Chavenage House.

The Gloucestershire home was built in the Elizabeth era, and has also been a filming location for Poldark.

Tours of the property take place from May to September, costing £10 for adults.

Box Hill – Leith Hill

While the picnic scene was meant to be filmed on Box Hill near Highbury, in the film it was actually at Leith Hill in Surrey.

It is the second highest point in South East England, and you can walk to the very same spot for free.
