Where is Donda 2? Kanye West fans run wild with memes as rapper’s album fails to drop on £200 Stem Player

Kanye West was never going to deliver Donda 2 on time based on his previous track record of album releases, but fans are still wondering: where the heck is it?

The All Falls Down hitmaker is due to release his 11th studio album today (February 22 aka 22/2/22) but it’s not a conventional release, by any means.

Donda 2 will only be available on Kanye’s new Stem Player, a technologically advanced gadget which splits the songs into stems and allows the user to alter the vocals, drums and bass as well as the ability to add other effects.

It’s pretty much an MP3 player for the new age.

However, as of Tuesday afternoon, Donda 2 is reportedly MIA on the platform.

Reacting to its whereabouts or lack thereof, one fan tweeted: ‘Kanye West’s real fans know that #DONDA2 won’t drop at midnight. He’s probably still mixing track 2 rn.’

Alongside a clown meme, one joked: ‘Y’all spent $200 and didn’t even get the album.’

Another quipped: ‘Kanye is going to release donda in 2/22/2222 and not today.’

Another Twitter user in: ‘N****s cryin bout #DONDA2 not releasing midnight. how you release an album before a listening party😂 and he never said he releasing midnight.’

Others agreed that Kanye would play on today being a palindrome and ambigram and Twosday – with the date 22/2/22 – and would likely release it at 22:22 aka 10:22pm.

‘Donda 2 is gonna drop not at 2:22, but 22:22 (10:22) today. Kanye’s just giving Mike Dean a hard time right now,’ one fan predicted while referencing the rapper’s producer.

The release of Donda 2 has been shrouded in criticism as Kanye has opted not to release on any other streaming service, including Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube.

The circular Stem Player gadget comes with the Donda album already included but it will set fans back a staggering £200.

Despite the unusually high price for the album, Kanye claimed to have made $2million (£1.6million) from sales already.

In a since-deleted Instagram post featuring sales figures, he wrote: ‘We’ve made $2,227,012.05 in 24 hour. God is good Thank you guys for taking this journey.’

Kanye insisted his decision to drop the album on Stem rather than more traditional streaming platforms was part of a move to ‘free music from this oppressive system’.

Donda 2 follows on from Kanye’s 10th studio album Donda, which was released in August and reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart.
