World Of Warcraft fans have been counting the hours until the release of the new classic version of the game – to mark its 25th anniversary.

The new server option was first announced at BlizzCon 2017 – meaning players have had a two-year wait for World Of Warcraft to return in its classic form.

So when can you expect to see it on your servers – and what else can you expect from it?

Here’s what you need to know…

When is World Of Warcraft Classic released?

The good news, gamers, is that World of Warcraft Classic is out now.

The game was officially released at 12am this morning Central European Summer Time – giving it an official release date of 27 August, although it appeared on 26 August in some regions since it was released everywhere at the same time.

In the UK the servers went up at 11pm last night, while New Yorkers would have had the chance to play the game from 6pm local time.

However those folks in Sydney, Australia, had to wait until 8am until it was released there.

And some might have had to wait even longer to play, since Blizzard warned that the servers might well face long login queues at the time of launch.

“At this time, all realms that have a Full or High population tag are expected to experience extended queues,” Blizzard explains.

“We urge players on realms marked Full or High to plan to play on one of these new realms to avoid the longest queues, and to help spread the player population as evenly as possible and provide the best play experience for everyone.”

What addons are available for World Of Warcraft Classic?

Players have plenty of addons available to them – here are just a few you might like to consider.

Z-Perl UnitFrames – changes the look of the unit frames to a more minimalist style, allowing players to see such features as levels of health and power during gameplay.

OneBag3 Classic – turns all your bags in the game into one big backpack – which could come in useful given how much stuff you have to carry around.

AtlasLootClassic – allows players to check all loot tables in the game.

Vendor Price – shows how much an item is selling for on the game’s tooltip for that item

MapCoords Classic – as the name suggests, this allows you to better check your whereabouts in the game by adding coordinates to the map.

Leatrix – aimed at enhancing the player’s in-game quality of life and making other actions easier includng automating quest turn-ins and blocking duels.

Gatherer – enables users to track where you’ve picked up herbs, ore etc and marks it on the map for you to use in the future.

What can you expect from World Of Warcraft Classic?

The game will give players the chance to put together a 40-player raid where they can take on Molten Core and try to open the gates of Ahn’Qiraj, while also taking part in the PvP fight between Soutshore and Tarren Mill.

Players will be able to return to Azeroth and experience it as it was during the 1.12.1 patch update, while content updates will continue to be released over several phases to reflect the game’s original patch release cycle.
