When is Luke Campbell vs Vasyl Lomachenko? Fight date, ring walk time, TV channel and undercard

Luke Campbell has accepted one of the most formidable challenges in boxing by challenging world champion Vasyl Lomachenko.

The Ukrainian is widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world having won world titles in three weight divisions since turning professional in 2013.

His sole defeat came in a hotly-contested fight against Orlando Salido but since then Lomachenko has appeared unbeateable.

He will put his two lightweight world titles on the line against Campbell while a third vacant belt will also be up for grabs.

The Brit lost his previous world title challenge against Jorge Linares two years ago but has since won three on the bounce.

Latest news

Olympic hero Luke Campbell insists he can upset the odds in his showdown with Ukranian lightweight king Vasyl Lomachenko.

Campbell will go toe-to-toe with Lomachenko — the WBA and WBO champion who tops the prestigious Ring magazine’s pound-for-pound ratings — at London’s O2 Arena on August 31.

Many observers feel Hull’s Campbell has next to no chance of beating a man hailed as an all-time great, but he insisted: “After this fight, people will be asking other fighters why they’re taking me on.

“I have never wanted to take an easy route. I believe I am the best and want to be the best, so it doesn’t matter what route you take. I have worked every day of my life since I was a young lad to do this and I am in a position to win.

“We are the two best fighters in the division, so it is going to be an exciting fight. This is my time to show everybody how good I am.

“It doesn’t matter what people’s opinions are, because it is all about what happens in the ring. I want to compete at the highest level and this is one of those moments where you make it or you break it, but I believe in myself. Every champion was once a challenger.”

Fury on undercard

Hughie Fury will fight Alexander Povetkin on the undercard of next month’s lightweight world title showdown between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Luke Campbell.

The fight, which will take place at The O2 in London on August 31, was confirmed by promoter Eddie Hearn on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.

Fury signed with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing stable last week and will make his debut against the former WBA champion, who remains one of the most fearsome punchers in the heavyweight division.

Povetkin has not fought since September when he lost via a seventh-round knockout to former WBA, IBF and WBO champion Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium.

Fury, who lost to then-WBO champion Joseph Parker in his world title shot in 2017, was last in the ring in October when he lost a points decision to Bulgarian Kubrat Pulev in an IBF Final Eliminator in Sofia.
