Batman’s big baddie, the Joker, holds a near mythological place in pop culture.

From Jack Nicholson’s instantly-iconic performance in 1989’s Batman to Heath Ledger’s tragic turn as the crazed clown, nobody is joking around when it comes to the Joker.

And now it’s Joaquin Phoenix’s turn to send chills down our spines.

When is Joker released in the UK?

Joker is out in most international markets on 4 October 2019, including the UK and America.

Who plays the Joker?

Joaquin Phoenix will be stepping into the role of the Joker for the new movie.

He plays Arthur Fleck, a man disregarded and disrespected by society.

There’s no denying he’s got some pretty big clown shoes to fill.

Other actors who have played the Joker include Jack Nicholson, Jared Leto, Heath Ledger and Cesar Romero.

Heath Ledger took home a posthumous Academy Award for his take on the character, so it’s fair to assume Joaquin Phoenix will have his sights set on Oscar gold too.

Who else is in 2019’s Joker?

Joaquin is joined by some Hollywood heavyweights.

Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy will be in the film, as well as Zazie Beetz, Jolie Chan and Marc Maron.

Is Batman in Joker?

We rarely see The Joker without Batman, so will the clown face off against the caped crusader?

Joker has a 15 age rating in the UK.

It has been classified as having strong bloody violence and strong language.
