Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are gearing up for a pretty bumper April as the game – which has already had an update – prepares to celebrate the Easter month with two big events.

While the Animal Crossing series has had no shortage of fictional in-game events based on real world holidays – including Christmas and Thanksgiving – it will be the first time that New Horizons has played host to one.

The first out of the gate is Bunny Day – but just when is it taking place, and how can players take part?

Here’s what you need to know…

When is Animal Crossing: New Horizons Easter Bunny Day?

Animal Crossing: New Horizons Easter Bunny Day actually takes place over the next couple of weeks, running from today, 1 April until 12 April.

It will involve Zipper T Bunny challenging users to dig up (and fish for) specially hidden eggs which you can then use to create limited time items and furniture.

However he’ll only be around on the game during this time, after which you’ll have to wait until next Easter time to see him and his eggs again.

How can you find eggs on Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

The event is free for users, but you’ll need to have the day one patch installed so you’re at least version 1.0.0. in order to take part.

There are a number of different types of egg available during the event – Earth Eggs, Sky Eggs, Leaf Eggs, Stone Eggs, Wood Eggs and Water Eggs.

Earth Eggs will need a bit of digging to locate – they can be found underneath X patterns on the grass of your island and you’ll need to dig them up.

Sky Eggs will appear inside floating presents flying over your island attached to balloons (they will look a bit different to normal present balloons as they’re rainbow coloured) which you can shoot down with your Slingshot tool.

Leaf Eggs will feature on fruitless Cherry Blossom trees and can be picked up by shaking the tree so they fall to the ground (use the Y button to then pick them up).

Stone Eggs will appear in rocks around the island and can be found by hitting rocks with your shovel or axe until they come out.

Water Eggs can be found in the river or ocean surrounding your island (they appear as shadows under the water), and can be fished out using the fishing rod tool.

You can find Wood Eggs in the same manner as you might gather wood and other similar crafting materials – by hitting a tree with one of your axe tools and seeing if one falls to the ground.
