TODAY is the last day of McDonald’s Monopoly 2019 so it might be a good idea to check those tiles!

The competition kicked off in March and has been running for six weeks, with it coming to an end today (Tuesday, April 30).

This year, the top prize being given away by McDonald’s is £100,000 cash but disappointingly, the number of prizes has been squeezed.

Here we run you through what you can win, how you play and how to maximise your chances of scooping a prize.

When does McDonald’s Monopoly 2019 end?

This year’s McDonald’s Monopoly giveaway started on March 20, a spokesperson for McDonald’s told The Sun.

The promotion will then run for six weeks until today, April 30, meaning there’s still plenty of chances for foodies to win big.

Food won’t be served in packaging with the tiles on them after the deadline and you’ll need to make sure you’ve claimed your prizes before midnight.

You won’t be able to redeem the vouchers after the deadline has passed.

This year is the 14th consecutive year of the popular game.

How does the giveaway work?

Every time you buy a qualifying McDonald’s product, there will be game pieces on the packet that represent tiles on the classic version of Monopoly.

You can add these tiles onto a board, and collect them to win prizes.

Some game pieces will be instant prizes, such as a free drink or a burger, and there will also be an online game piece, which can be redeemed for an online voucher or prize.

But the main game pieces to look out for will be part of a traditional double or triple set, where the prizes are much bigger.

But it also means they’re harder to come by – these are the rare pieces that you need to look out for to boost your chances of winning.

Whether you get a double or triple game piece depends on what you order.

For example, a Big Tasty box comes with three stickers while a side of fries will get you just two.

This year, McNuggets and Big Macs don’t come with any stickers on them at all, but a side salad will earn you triple points.

Make sure you keep your tokens in a safe place, as some fans reckon they’re harder to keep hold of after McDonald’s ditched the sticky backs.

If you manage to get your hands on a complete set of properties, such as all the reds, you are eligible for a big prize.

What are the McDonald’s Monopoly 2019 prizes?

In 2018, as part of the “instant wins”, there were over 50,000,000 food and drink prizes to be won across the UK.

But disappointingly, Maccies has slashed the number of prizes in 2019 making it even harder to win big.

The number of holidays on offer has been reduced from 200 to 20, and the number of games consoles from 500 to 400.

As well as free food such as Big Macs, McFlurry’s and apple pies, this year cinema tickets, a hoverboard and wireless headphones are all up for grabs.

These are the top prizes that customers can get their hands on this year with the right tiles:

  • Dark Blue set – £100k in cash, four available
  • Green set – a Mini Cooper, 20 available
  • Yellow set – £2,000 holiday spending money, 50 available
  • Red set – PS4 Pro games console, 650 available
  • Train set – Any mobile phone with a one-year Sky contract, 400 available
  • Light Blue – £50 Boohoo.com fashion voucher, 18,000 available
  • Brown set – Medium extra value meal, 2,000,000 available

Other prizes include Now TV packages, a KitSound Diggit Outdoor Portable Speaker and other bits from the McDonald’s menu.

What menu items come with the most stickers?

This year, the fast food chain has removed the “go large” incentive which used to boost customers’ chances of winning by upping the number of stickers to three per food item.

Now, large meals come with the same number of stickers as a medium meal to encourage diners to make healthier choices.

For the first time, customers will also receive Monopoly game pieces on carrot bags and sides such as salads as well as wraps.

How many you get depends on what you order.

For example, any drink as part of a meal, fizzy soft drink and Big Flavour Wrap come with three tiles on the packaging, while a side of fries or mozzarella dippers will only get you two.

It’s a step in the right direction for the company after the game came under fire from Labour MP Tom Watson who branded it a “danger to public health” for encouraging overeating.

There are millions of prizes to be won, either as “instant wins” or by playing online – from £5 to £100,000 cash, Mini Cooper cars, Boohoo.com vouchers and city breaks from loveholidays, as well as millions of food and drink prizes.

There are other ways you can increase your chances of winning such as using online gaming codes at off-peak times.
